@John Blossom Scotty is so far off, BMW parts are very easy to get plus most the time very low priced. I can name a half dozen parts companys that can get any part you want. Have three used BMW's and have never had any problem

The 1st year pre vanos e36 manual cars are actually pretty pleasant to work on, cheap parts are abundant, and they were rock solid and reliable. I miss the old "brake light circuit" message.

I bought a 2019 Subaru Impreza, my wife was currently driving a 2010 Infinity QX56 which is the same as the armada, so i bought the subaru 0 miles straight off the truck because our infinity was getting to expensive to drive Fuel Wise! So without any research first we just bought the subaru 2.0 Impreza since alot of people here in wyoming seem to love them, my question to you is did i buy a lemon? Are these Subaru Brand cars really not good? I feel like i made a bad decision right after watching some of your videos, i wanted to get something better like a Toyota or maybe a Chevy Branded vehicle but i didnt want to be so much in debt as i plan to pay this off is half a year, let me know what you think.

Its funny that he brings up this fact using a dodge van as an example. My mechanic buddy had a customer being one of those to him. The air filter looked like a dead rat that got ran over on the freeway. My buddy told the guy "hey you need a new filter, $10". The guys response? "Can't you just pull one from a junk yard for cheaper?". He noped out of that relationship quick!

What's so hard about gaping points and plugs? Jeez. Most mechanics these days want to throw parts at cars which nowadays are designed to have parts thrown at them.

I am around Scotties age and have my own private shop and do side work. I worked on a Mercedes ONCE. Told the guy never to bring it back. lol Most customers that had Chrysler products were good customers because there was always something wrong with them. I've worked on several late 90's and early 2000 Camry's. Awesome cars. One had 324,000 miles and still ran great.

You guys are loosing lots of money. The shop I worked at we rebuilt the entire brakes and suspension on cars I thought were not worth it. I'm not talking about muscle cars but ones like a base V8 stripped down 65 Dodge Coronet 4 Dr and base model 75 Camaro or early 70's Nova's . We even had owners put a couple thousand dollars into their vehicles like a reman engine for a 74 Ford LTD 4 door. It's not for us to say. If the person loves the car for whatever reason and they have the money and wish to spend it so be it. People build cars all the time and spend more money than most are worth or they will ever get back if they sell them. Hell just watch FantomWorks and you will see it. Like the owner of a 77 or 76 Corvette who spent close to six figures restoring his father's C3 Corvette a car not going to be worth $20,000.00 when finished. But hey I would advise them but if they insist I would do the job.

My own son had a 98 Trans Am he loved and it was becoming a money pit. It had over 130 k miles and needed a clutch among other things. People were constantly banging into it putting dings and dents. I advised him to sell it. And when he was in a better position with a house with a garage to store and keep a car nice he could buy another Trans Am with low mileage for what he would end up in his car. Paint and body work alone would have been 5-6 k not including it needed to rebuild the LS1 and new headers that were in sad shape. He listened to me and sold it.

@Rhaspun totally agree. That's why if a customer is aware of the cost and they truly want their cars fixed we do it. We just make sure they understand they more than likely won't recoup the money. But many do drive the vehicles and see them as cheap transportation. Some just truly love the car and especially if it was owned by a family member.

                                                    • Rhaspun

Those car owners know whats wrong and right with their cars. So spending a few thousand for a reman engine can be a good. deal. Now the car is reliable again and continue to be used.

I had a 1996 SATURN wagon for a long, long time and I took it into a transmission shop this year (2019) to have a new tranny put in it, I was willing to pay the $2,000 for it and the mechanic refused to do it! He said I shouldn't do it and he wouldn't do it because the car had 239,000 miles on it so it does happen. I did however find a 1999 Saturn with 80k miles on it the next week and bought it plus an 02' Buick Lesabre to go with it.
