How the Jets crashed and burned after back-to-back AFC Championship appearances

  • It may feel like an alternate universe but there was a time when Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets were setting the NFL on fire, in a good way. They reached back-to-back AFC Championship games in their first two seasons together and the future finally looked bright for a franchise built on failure. But just like seeing a waterfall in the desert, it was all a mirage. The Jets crashed and burned while the football world watched, not in amazement, but surprise it hadn’t happened sooner.

As much as it pains me, you all should do a collapse on the 2000s Tigers team and their ALMOST series wins and horrifying collapse to become what is now the worst team in the MLB....again.

Can I request one? How about the collapse of Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa from winning the European Cup to playing in the second tier of English football? (Though, happily, Villa have since been promoted back to the top flight)

If I may make a suggestion for a future episode of “Collapse.” I think the 2007 New York Mets blowing a 7 game lead in the NL East in September is worthy of a closer look.

The 2011 NFL Lockout really had an adverse effect on the Jets, as they just never gelled. Santonio Holmes was also a locker room cancer, which is why Pittsburgh let him go (despite a SB MVP)

Oh who cares, the Jets are a loser organization that has a loser fan base who hasnt tasted winning since the Brady Bunch was on TV. The Steelers fan base, who are used to winning (except when it comes to the Pats) are stuck with Mike Tomlin, who might be the worst coach since Ritchie Kotite. Every season takes the team another year away from Bill Cowher and the players who were drafted by and played under him, which means the holes in Tomlins Steelers get more and more obvious as he slowly bleeds the franchise dry.... Tomlin will NEVER be fired because it might reflect poorly on The goddamn Rooney Rule!! So, the Steelers are forever stuck with old man Rooney's big affirmative action hire.....

He could play, he did some stupid plays, but they did not help him at all with additional talent in the skill positions. They threw him under the bus and the buttfumble became too much for him to overcome. Watch the AFC Championship Game against Pittsburgh again. The reason the Steelers passed on third down to seal the game was because they did not want Sanchez to get the ball back as he was heating up. Rex backed up his talk those first two seasons, but kept believing his boasts long after the team was nowhere near a playoff contender. I am not sure if we will ever see a quarterback win his first four road playoff games in his first two seasons again.
