Let’s not forget that they want to build it on Hawaiian crown lands. The majority of Hawaiians say no. End of story

I get the sense that Tyson has been lecturing and being "right" too long, or that is some narcissistic trait of his. He so badly wants to be coining phrazes left and right, having every period in his long winded sentences be the final one. He is not interessted in discussing or debating, so sure is he ebout his ability to settle any argument. He has some real issues with wanting to be quotable as well.

Can't say I am a fan of that.

Hawaii has sacrificed enough already. 13 telescopes is far too many and now they want a monster telescope up there... WHEN? When will enough ever be enough? When we have absolutely nothing left!? We don't have a choice we have been backed in to a corner and we have to stand up to protect our land and our mauna because if we don't what will be left for the next generations? That's the problem with western ideology. Greed mixed with the fact that they think land and water is a commodity and not the life giving resource that it is. Same mentality that has got us in to this mess of climate change because people do not understand that our resources are limited. Arrogance. Ignorance, and greed. 🌎⛰🌱❤

The other reason why Natives are so opposed to this is because Hawai’i is technically not a legal state of the US, it was seized by US businessmen and threats. Look more into it, it’s really interesting.

Neil is the biggest dumb ass and he needs to educate himself about our Mauna, Maunakea. Our Mauna is so sacred, he needs to learn about our history of Hawai’i and our Polynesian cultures. I’m so pissed 😤 off of his ignorance and he kept interrupting you Joe. Perfect example about having no respect. I don’t think he knows that our Hawaiian 🌺 islands and Hawaiian Kingdom was overthrown in 1887. Our Monarchs was jailed and the white men took and stoled our lands, language, raped and pillaged as well. We were island slaves as well. Read the Kumulipo. You might need someone to translate from Hawaiian to English from the beginning of time and our sacred Mauna! We still have certain protocols where we translate in our Mele’s songs and chants, through Hula, our cultural dances etc. Joe, mahalo ( Thank you) for trying to share about what’s going on about our Mauna, Maunakea. Ku Kia’i Mauna! The guardian and protectors of our Mauna! 🤙🏽🏝🌋🌴🔥🌅🌺🌺🌺😎

Are all of these really necessary for astronomy, aren't they not a bit redundant? Seems more like NSA and DoD under the guise of scientific research. Is this a separate but equal thing for the Space Force maybe? 🤔
That said, and knowing there are already facilities there on the mountain, are the protests really justified? Seems more like someone knows its true purpose and wants to divide the people on the issue... Seems like the resolution is that it will just be built someday in silence.

The natives are protesting the telescope for the most ignorant reason there is--it's against their dumb culture of ignorance...that is... praying to a 'god'. Their 'god' won't like it. Meanwhile, the telescope is precisely there to help all people, even the natives if they care to learn new things instead of relying on primitive thinking, expand the knowledge of understanding the Universe.... and not just sitting around drunk starring at the mountain and praying to non-existent nothingness. But... The natives are just negotiating. They really just want money. And they know eventually they'll be bribed with money and, who knows, maybe we'll give them a new tax-free casino license. Because make no mistake, it's just about money.
