Scotty, thanks for your car wisdom. I agree, used cars are a better value. But, not fair to consider the utility one derives in years 3, 4, 5 same asvyear 1 straight off the lot. I think 2-3 years is the sweet spot.

guys dont listen to him its true to get a cheaper car but never buy a car that is like literally 10 year old or more.
the reason to that is safety.

Depends. If you buy a popular vehicle that holds it value well, then, surprisingly, the depreciation from year 1-5 is the SAME as the depreciation from year 6 -10, but in years 1-5 you have virtually ZERO repairs, which is not the case with years 6-10, and you get a much newer car.

But older cars don’t have modern day technology and safety features such as adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist and automatic emergency braking, they don’t have modern infotainment systems with stuff like Apple CarPlay and android auto. Cars have gotten much much more advanced lately and I feel by buying an older car you are missing out on all of that

Just cant be taking time off from work every month just because of car problems whether to fix it yourself or take it into the shop. Also the uncertainty of driving and not knowing when a used car will leave you stranded on the side of the road. So (the right) new cars are the way to go to avoid all this. Less headache!!!

I agree. I always buy cars that are 3 years old with have 15k or fewer miles. My current car is a 2015 Kia Optima LX with technology package. It was three years old, had less than 3k miles, one owner, privately owned, and I paid $10,000 less than the original MSRP. the original owner even installed a manufacturer remote starter. Of course, I verified everything and had it looked at. The car had some minor issues due to winter and sitting, which I had sorted for free by the Kia dealership because the original Kia warranty transfers to the second owner.

Yes, I know that Scotty and the Scottyphiles will make fun of me and my car because it is a Kia, but it drives great. I have put 20k on it during my 18 months of ownership; it has been through a PCS and a half, a couple of round trips between Texas and Georgia, and several trips between our home and my mother in law's home (8hour round trip). It handles and drives great.

I have the regular maintenance done, and like the Gospel according to Scotty says. "As long as you don't pay too much money for it, you can buy the stupid thing." which is what I did, and so glad that I did, lol
