I have both a 1998 Volvo V70XC Cross Country with almost 185K miles that was built and assembled in Belgium, and a brand new 2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country with barely 500 miles that was built and assembled in Sweden.
Both are great cars. The new 2020 V60 Cross Country is such a smooth, fast, sexy, comfortable, and drives like a dream. Yet my old 1998 V70 Cross Country still drives great, is mechanically sound, comfortable as heck, and is slowly starting to wear out, but it's not something that's unfixable.
They're wonderful cars, and Volvo has nothing but my greatest respect.
Whether you own an old Volvo from the 1980s, or one from the later 90s, a brand new state of the art 2020 model, or all 3 of them, they're cars that will last you a VERY long time and will never let you down. Volvo has some of the best mechanical craftsmanship and refinement of any car as well as an amazing safety record, so if you own a Volvo, you own no doubt one of the best built cars on the road. :)

I have a question for Volvo owners. If there is a 1991 Volvo 740 Sedan for sale for $2500 with 150,000 miles reported on it,

        1) What should you look out for? (I'm gonna hire a mechanic to look at it obviously but if there I wanted to know if there were any specific problems to the Volvo 740 I should be aware of)
        2) If the car were clean and no major problems, is that a good price for it?
        Thanks

                      Hey Scotty.
What is the proper method for changing the plastic box on a Volvo that recycles the oil?
Can the box, wherever it is, be placed into the washing machine to be cleaned or is that wrong?

When we had kids. I sold my wife's, Tercel. Bought a 240 wagon, for her. One day, she turned in front of a cement truck. Both passenger doors were caved in. Car was up on two wheels. My daughter, was in a car seat, on that side. She was fine. The old tin box Tercel was fun to drive, but.... That truck bumper was quite high. The Volvo, still drove straight, after this. Kept it for a few weeks, for the novelty. Then bought her another one. Currently, i have two, manual 97 850awd wagons, with 2.3 turbos. (locking rear differential in the snow, is a blast)

They last long maybe because they‘re developed from the reliable 240 series drivetrain. Wich is basically a 1950’s construction.

They needed nearly ten years of time until the well engineered 700 series was presented. Except the shitty glovebox and the (coloured) interior plastic parts (red blue green and tan, not black.. ) nearly every part is much heavier built than it has to be.

Until 1988 it’s construction was improved (engine, electrical system, rust resistance) and with some minor design changes it was produced until 1998 known as the 940.

I got a mint 2004 V70 2.0T recently with 62,000 miles, full service history. Drives like a new car! Has the best sounding stereo I’ve ever heard. It cost me €150 and runs silk smooth. Modern cars are rubbish, I know full well I work in the industry!!!

I'm a teenager(16) and can't wait to drive a car when I get my licence. In my country we can only take driver licences when we're 17. I was thinking to buy a volvo for my first car, either volvo 240 or 7 or something. Tbh I love old cars a lot

It was reliable, comfortable, simple to work on, and drove very well. Unfortunately it was fitted with an electric overdrive that could be engaged or dis-engaged via a button an the shift lever, and for whatever reason, likely the solenoid, the overdrive ceased working? As a result I sold the car, which, had it not been for the overdrive problem, I would have likely kept for a lot longer? I currently own a 2004 Volvo V50 T5, which is a great car, and which I intend keeping until it expires completely.
