Got a 2002 Honda CR-V with over 200,000, never had any engine problems, still runs great, also have a F150 ecoboost 2.7 over 150,000 with no problems, still runs great...

Scotty, quick question if you see this, I have an opportunity to buy a straight six Ford truck, It runs great, but they no longer sell this engine, is there a reason for this? It seems to run strong. Yet they don't put it in their trucks anymore. Any thoughts appreciated.

Respectfully, I put three-hundred and thirteen-thousand miles on my Ecoboost 2012 F-150. Drove the truck hard and it operated nearly the same as it did when purchased it new. Missed the sound of a V8 so I bought a 2018 5.0/V8 F-150 new and it's having an engine replaced this week. The Ecoboost engine was superior in overall performance, ride quality and durability. There are other mechanical advantages not mentioned in the video, e.g., weight factor, stress test results, etc. The Ecoboost lacks the rugged sound associated with a traditional V8, but it's proven many wrong, including myself.

I do hotshot deliveries with the 2.7ecoboost & a 16ft tandem axle trailer. I put 165, 000 miles on my 2015 before I traded in. The majority of these miles were with a loaded trailer. I kept up with the maintenance and had 0 problems with this engine. In fact, I had to replace a turbo at 125,000 miles & it was the only thing I had to fix. When I traded in at 165,000 the truck still ran like new & the engine was quiet. I have the same engine in my new truck & so far 0 problems. I agree that fixing these engines is expensive. But you don't buy a twin turbo engine thinking it will be cheap to fix. I get better gas mileage (when I want to lol) & more power (also when I want to). Love this engine. ESPECIALLY for towing as the power band is larger, allowing for less revs & more power under 3,000rpms.

Guys that actually run decent oil and filters and change them regularly dont seem to have any problems. 90% of these guys are the ones that dont mix gas in their chainsaws and jump on stihls site ranting and raving they are junk and it blew up first time out... common sense is near non existent now days and it's sad. The 3.5 is a 400k mile motor if more owners would give a flying f***. The ones that care will get up there too, just wait.

I hesitate to call all this computer stuff on cars technology. It's only technology for the sake of technology and contradicts itself because it complicates things. True technology eliminates extra parts, extra weight and still get things done in an improved manner. A bunch of wires, chips, and specialty tools needed do not impress me. The automotive industry as of late kinda sucks really.

So if a person needs a truck, what's you're suggestion. It seems that the simplest V8 design would be most reliable. That would be GM I would say.

Mr. Scotty - I can see that you are an experienced mechanic. However, I think your understanding of WHY vehicles have issues is flawed. It is not the materials, it is the engineering. My little Nissan Frontier is all Aluminum and it has ZERO problems at 95k and it is all aluminum.....That being said, and with all do respects, I see your advice in this video as detrimental. Again, it is not the materials, it is the engineering behind the materials. Issues and or flaws are usually driven by profits (and or planned obsolescence).

Stepping out of the car arena and into another engineering area - Either Samsung or LG front loading washing machines have ZINC tank supports connected to a stainless steel tub? Two dissimilar metals where the Zinc tub support becomes the sacrificial metal that is designed to fail +- in 10 years.

It was as simple as the color I wanted they had the 5.0 and not any EcoBoost with the color and package I wanted. EcoBoost has earned my respect and if the dealership woulda had the color and package I wanted in the 3.5 that is what would be sitting in my driveway now

Kept spooling water into the cylinders, causing the engine to stall. I suspect Florida's humidity was not considered in Ford's design. I noticed back when they endurance tested the 3.5 EB it was all done in the desert and out west where it is much dryer. Anyway, after that turbo wannabe Kia sedan engine stranded his wife and kids twice on the busy interstate, he traded it in for a 5.0 like mine. Can't beat V8 reliability.

Had a 2010 Taurus SHO (That thing would flat out GO), drove it to 220K miles averaged 26 mpg, traded for a 2013 F150 Lariat with the same engine averaged 18.5 mpg. Again had no issues, drove it to 215K miles. Just traded it in for a 2019 F150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost. After 3500 miles, averaging 21.8 mpg. In a 4x4, that's pretty good in my book. Granted, 85% of my miles are Interstate driving and I tend to drive within the limits.
