El Señor T not the old ones, I have a 1996 coupe with 330,000 miles, the old saturns were some of the best cars from the 90s

Scotty, the Saturn cars from 1996 and before were great cars, you’ve never owned one, so don’t criticize, I have two Saturn coupes, 1996 and 1994, my 1996 has 330,000 miles, original trans and engine, so that well passed your Toyota Celica, and they were great cars. Still daily drive them

We’ve imported a 2007 Saturn Vue I Greenline (grey) to France 11 years ago. It still running good! Euro équivalent could be the Dacia Duster : cheap and really reliable.

I owned multiple Saturns and sold cars for the company too. I didn't have your experience with blowing engines or wrecked transmissions. What really killed Saturn was the GM bankruptcy; actually, prior to that, GM killed Saturn with stupid management, awful designs (the ION), and waiting too long (with the Sky) to inject anything interesting into the brand. By the time the Sky roadster and Aura sedan came out, customer interest was high, but then the economy crashed and GM needed a bail out so Saturn went the way of Pontiac and Olds.

Saturn could've been a really good company for GM if only they'd listened to Honda. A Japanese engine that is pretty much indestructible in a lower quality car is not something you would see everyday in a GM product.

Many later Saturns such as the L-series and the Astra were not true Saturns. GM just took existing Opels and Vauxhalls and copy/pasted instead of engineering new Saturns to fill similar niches when they already had European solutions on the road. That way they could sell the same crap worldwide. Goes both ways, too -- my Chevrolet Orlando (Cruze based 7-seater MPV made in a Daewoo factory) was released as an Opel Zafira in Europe.

No offense to Saturn fans but GM should've took the money they spent creating the brand and instead used it for making their already existing brands at the time more competitive and possibly just as reliable against the imports.

Thats one thing I still dont understand about carmakers. If one would build a vehicle, so good, so strong, so reliable, it wouldn't matter what they charged because they'd be the only ones selling!

Saturn was another worthless GM product. I looked at those when they came out and the quality was so bad. Maybe the plastic doors was a good idea to keep them from being dented but beyond that, JUNK! I test drove one and it was terrible. Terrible ride, no power, noisy, and poorly built. I think it was the SL1 or SL2 but no matter, it was JUNK! And the other thing was there was no dealing with them. The price was the price and that was it, take or leave it. Glad I left it!

Did Saturn use 3.0 or 3.1 Cadillac engines in the early 2000’s? Think my folks had one. Cheap junky interior, radio, and speakers but had fantastic acceleration .

Had a 92 SL1. Thing was a pos. 56k miles the head gasket blew. Cost me $1500 in 1995 to get it fixed, and no independent mechanic would work on it. I had to take it to the dealer. Then the belt tensioner went bad, 62k , sucker was $200, again had to get the part at the dealer. When the driver side door lock started to fail, ( it would keep trying to unlock the doors and run down the battery) i priced the assembly, because again, you could only buy the parts from Sadturn, they would only sell them in the set of 4. They wanted $900. Car didn't even have 110k on it. I would have done better with a Toyota camry

How many millions of $$$$ did GM squander attempting to make a durable plastic connecting rod?
So the result ended up as powdered metal rods and cryofracturing the big end, with it's cap.
An Aussie guy corrected me on the process. Sintered metal is porous.
So powdered metal is high temp high pressure forging.

These were the good cars, I have a 96' with 239k miles and a 99' but after 2002 GM ruined them and the newer ones are just not very good, for example the ION.
