For everyone asking this video launch was a mistake, I was setting it up to air Tuesday evening after I added pictures to it, but I added the wrong air date to the schedule and it launched when I was sleeping, that’s why there’s no pictures

........ Designing stuff on cars not to exceed say 7 or ten years of use is what is done these days...The saying used to be in the auto industry that if you can save a dollar on the manufqcting cost that the corporation would promote you to executive director. Scotty s made it clear and it makes sense that the auto industries have been pulling back from quality state of art reliability since the last couple of decades..
mention was made of century and optima brand battery Manufacturer also , it's not difficult to manufacture better reliability batteries cos they used to do so once. Houses aren't constructed to the quality of past decades either.

If you live in a community with public transportation...give it a try. You could save an extra 12000$/year or even more. And you can bring your bike. Public transit works very well.

Years ago a friend of mine who owns a autobody repair shop told me that when he made a field trip to a GM auto plant back east was talking to one of the tour guides after the visit ( and a couple of beers in between ) said to him that by adding some pounds of zinc and nickel etc in the steel formula when manufacturing the sheet metal and body parts would pretty much eliminate rust from forming on those same parts but of course was never done for ''economic reasons ''.

IMO the cost of repairing cars made with plastic in the last 20+ years depends upon how expensive those plastic parts are and whether you are handy enough to do the work yourself. The problem we run into with classics is the availability of quality OEM parts.

In my way of thinking the cars from the mid 50's through to the late 60's were the best. It was during the early to mid 70's the quality of the materials used were degraded by the designers and manufactures. With the more complex electronics and computerization the cars became a lot more complex to service. The reliability and mechanical endurance declined. There are some models of SUV's and trucks that are very well built and would last longer than the average, but they are also a lot more costly. These cars are also using complex electronics, complex mechanical assemblies, and are also difficult to service.

If you look back in to the 50's and up to the late 60's you would see most everything made was a lot better built. Everything from appliances through to TV sets, to cars, to vacuum cleaners, and etc., lasted a lot longer, and was feasible to service. People used to be able to service what they had and use these devices for a long time compared to today.

The car industry changes daily. Toyota and Honda have gone in a different direction it seems....
Build a brand that people will be loyal to and the cars will advertise for themselves. Too bad that Chrysler/Fiat can't do squat when it comes to reliability cuz they make some cool designs. Chevy looks like crap. Ford ...eh...nuthin' special. Aston Martin posers.

Re plastic parts - I worked at Nissan's US HQ in California in the 1990's and after leaving, I bought a used Q45 which is their flagship to compete with Lexus. But it had a known flaw where they used plastic gears on the timing chain tensioner belt, and they broke after 3-4 years, lunching the entire engine. I found out about it and was planning the $1200 non-warranty repair to prevent failure, but it happened right in an intersection and it lunched the engine. It cost me $7000 to rebuild the engine. Not funny.

My driveway is about 100 yards long with potholes..this is really obvious at slow speeds when one front wheel hits a pothole, much more muted at higher speeds. If I go over a speedbump with both wheels, no problem....I finally took it to the dealer and had a tech drive with me...he said something was loose...they recommended the struts be replaced..which I did..that definitely dampened the problem but did not fix it...I then had the rack replaced..and did not notice much improvement...all that is left is tie rods and control arms....also note when I had the struts done the loaner they gave me (camry) and the steering was solid...I mean rock solid.....when I had the rack done they gave me a loaner (camry) and the steering was as bad or worse than mine when one front wheel hit a pothole at low speeds the steering wheel jumped all over...any ideas?
