I OWNED This Volvo S60R For One Day And I SHOULDN'T Have Sold It

  • Published: 21 April 2019
  • I bought the dream Volvo, the manual transmission, AWD, turbocharged, inline 5 cylinder, sport sedan. Unfortunately it seemed like it would need a mountain of work to get it back on the road so I let it go the next day for a few hundred over what I paid. Turns out it just needed a little work to sort out the mechanical issues and a lot of love in the cosmetic department. Jeremiah has been hard at work for 2 weeks and has this car mostly sorted out now. We decided to jump back in, take a look at the progress and go for a spin to see how it drives now.

I own one of these here in Australia. Mine is auto however . I looked for 2 years for a good one to come on the market, and didn't have much of a choice when one finally popped up for sale. (Only 44 imported to Australia, so super rare). By far the best car I've ever owned.

I’m having rebuild an 09’ s60 2.5T that I’m rebuilding the front suspension from hitting a kernel on the right side with a glancing blow, and unfortunately I had to repair the wheels (should’ve bought new wheels) as the are Vossen wheels made from T6 aluminum which is HARD to weld. Now they need straightening, damn I went from awesome runner to crapola.

Oh and H&R DO make springs for this car. Not just eibach. Nice purchase!

Or the rear knuckle breaks via the parking brake shoes, 1000.... The "bevel gear" breaks for the 4wd..... 1500 used. The rear driveshaft, 800.... The right z rated tires are expensive.. Expensive replacement R wheels... All the special trim bits.. The special interior parts... Have fun when the interior door release breaks... It's great when it runs tho... But a very needy and expensive car to own. Goes great in the snow too, but I'd never own another.

It bugs the f&ck out of me when people just see cars as just transportation and not examples technology and great engineering that should be maintained. This car shouldn't have been relegated to a beater. Its a true performance luxury car! The r series Volvos are awesome! I still want the last gen v70r. I own an 07 passat 3.6 4mo wagon, and a 95 5 speed vr6 wagon, both special cars, in terms of features and how many were sent to the US. I want to keep them and maintain them, as vr6 engines are examples of great engineering. 4 cylinder size, 6 cylinder torque, almost straight 6 performance. But most people are like why you spending money to keep those cars. Buy something newer, (which isnt half the quality, performance or luxury as even my 95). You should just drive it and get rid of it when something needs to be fixed. They completely dismiss the money they waste on all the crap they buy. Like the guy who bought this car, I have saved myself thousands fixing my own cars. And honestly cars today are "designed to fail" crap. My 95 still has 90% the same parts it come off line with. Then manufacturers wanted to sell cars not maintenance services.

lol 1100W peak amplification is a mathematical term. It is the maximum amplitude (how high you can turn it up) before distortion occurs... the 100W jokes you made refers to the RMS power output.... root mean squared.... its the average power draw when you combine the whole audio wave...

Low frequency outputs require high amplitude and low RMS, while high frequency outputs require low amplitude and high RMS.

So for a sub woofer having a high peak amplitude is more important than any amount of sustained power.

It all depends I guess, how much youre able to do on the car by yourself, and how much extra youre willing to spend on parts incase something break, im not sure about what parts cost non-R vs R in the US so you would have to look for yourself.
An R is always an R, I really really want a V70R but they are rare and expensive in Sweden so I guess Ill stick to my 05 V70.

Maybe get an S60 FWD with 2.4T/2.5T/T5 instead, you could always put on R details if thats something you really want.
